UK Crime Agency Hit By DDoS Attack
Event Comes in Aftermath of Stolen Card Ring Takedown
The United Kingdom's Serious Organised Crime Agency, which recently took down 36 websites selling stolen credit and debit card data, was hit May 3 by a distributed denial-of-service attack.

Soca told the BBC that the site was taken offline at 10:30 p.m. local time. Although Soca couldn't confirm the source of the attack, the agency took steps to limit the impact of the attack on clients "hosted by the [same] service provider," a spokesperson told the news agency.
The site was back online May 4.
In April, Soca announced that it had taken down 36 websites that were selling stolen debit and credit card data for more than 2.5 million accounts (see: Websites Selling Stolen Cards Foiled). The UK crime agency worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Department of Justice and other international organizations, making three arrests during the operation, which involved two years of tracking e-commerce sites.
