2012 Print Security Survey

How well do you secure printing assets to protect sensitive and private data?

Government entities are focused increasingly on external threats to security and privacy. But how prepared are they for internal threats - specifically, those that manifest through their own printing and imaging devices?

If acknowledging a risk is one step toward mitigating it, then survey respondents at least have hit that milestone.

When asked about the importance of print/imaging security, 86 percent of respondents say it is important or very important.

But if actions speak louder than words, then these same respondents are relatively silent about this growing insider risk. Worse, they are relatively unaware of their potential exposure. For example:

  • When asked if their organizations had been breached via print/imaging devices in the past year, 35 percent of respondents say "I don't know."
  • When asked if their organizations have specific guidelines for managing and maintaining print/imaging devices, 17 percent say "I don't know."
