But the same economies of scale that MSPs offer also have made them "a juicy target" for criminals wielding ransomware, automation and other types of online attacks, says Candid Wüest, vice president of cyber protection research at Acronis. "If you attack and compromise an MSP, you probably get 100, 200 or even 1,000 companies. So that's something that we see at the moment," he says.
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2022, Wüest also discusses:
- Top attack trends;
- Security questions that every MSP customer should be posing to their provider;
- The need to continually revisit and strengthen security fundamentals.
Wüest researches new and emerging threat trends and comprehensive protection methods at Acronis, a Swiss-Singaporean cyber protection company. He previously served for more than 16 years as the tech lead for Symantec's global security response team. Wüest has published a book and various white papers and has been featured as a security expert by top-tier media outlets. He also advises the Swiss federal government on cyber risks.
