NIST Issues New PIV, Cipher Modes Guidance

Public Response Being Sought The National Institute of Standards and Technology's Computer Security Division released three documents and an update to a recently issued special publication on Monday. The three documents are:
Special Publication 800-73-3 (Draft): Interfaces for Personal Identity Verification, Part1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4;
Special Publication 800-38E (Draft), Recommendation for Block Cipher Modes of Operation; and

The update is for Special Publication 800-53 Revision 3 to include an errata page and supporting files.

NIST requests comments on draft SP 800-73-3 by 5 p.m. EDT on Sept. 13 to PIV_comments@nist.gov with "Comments on Public Draft SP 800-73-3" in the subject line. Comments on the text of NIST SP 800-38E may be submitted to EncryptionModes@nist.gov until Sept. 17.
