Focusing on Vectors, Not Threats

Barracuda's Pao on the Ever-Changing Threat Landscape
Stephen Pao
To help defend their organizations, security professionals should devote more attention to attack vectors rather than specific threats, says Stephen Pao of Barracuda Networks.

"We've now been through enough cycles in the entire security industry to recognize that focusing on threats that come and go and the constantly changing landscape just keeps us behind, Pao says. "It's important to take a step back, and rather than looking at all the individual threats in isolation to really look at the vectors in which they can enter the organization."

In an interview recorded at the Gartner Security & Risk Management Summit, Pao discusses:

  • The key threat vectors;
  • Malware trends;
  • Security issues tied to cloud computing

Pao serves as general manager, security business, at Barracuda Networks, where he is responsible for strategic product direction, definition, program management and development for all of the company's security products. He has more than 20 years of experience in high growth technology companies. Before joining Barracuda, Pao led program management and engineering efforts at All Star Directories.
