Proofpoint has acquired NetCitadel, which specializes in automated security incident response. The acquisition extends the capabilities of Proofpoint's advanced threat solutions.

The NetCitadel automated incident response platform prioritizes potential security incidents by unifying security alerts from Proofpoint. Based on this prioritization, impacted systems can be quarantined and further communications to malicious sites can be blocked.

The unification of disparate threat intelligence data, combined with automated incident response, enables security professionals to respond to threats faster, in a more scalable way, and with higher confidence and accuracy, Proofpoint says.

IBM Expands Endpoint Protection Software

IBM has introduced Trusteer Apex security software that's designed to help stop threats at endpoints, including laptops and desktops, which are susceptible to malware. The software is the latest addition to the IBM's Threat Protection System, which leverages security intelligence and behavioral analytics to go beyond conventional anti-virus approaches.

Trusteer Apex blocks attempts by cybercriminals to exploit vulnerabilities on the endpoint that lead to data breaches. It provides an automated threat analysis capability to help prevent attacks.
