Enterprise Browser Supporting Healthcare, Cyber Resilience

The use cases for enterprise browsers have expanded beyond BYOD and VDI replacement to include contractor access, resilience and collaboration, said Island Co-Founder & CEO Mike Fey.

Fey said the enterprise browser has become increasingly important in helping healthcare organizations simplify data access for nonemployee specialists, improving both security and productivity. Fey also emphasized how the enterprise browser supports resilience, enabling businesses to stay operational and minimize downtime during security breaches, system shutdowns or major IT crises (see: How the Enterprise Browser Marries IT and Security).

"We have entire organizations that have integrated us in their identity stack, have us stood up on the side, and literally - in a moment's notice - can bring up their entire company on alternate devices," Fey said. "And it really reaffirmed to us how important it is that we're nonhardware-bound. We literally can deliver our capabilities on almost every platform now from Linux to Droid to Macs to Chromebooks."

Before founding Island, Fey served as president and COO at Symantec and before joining Symantec, he served as president and COO of Blue Coat, leading product and go-to-market functions. Before that, he was executive vice president and general manager for enterprise products at McAfee and chief technology officer of Intel Security, where he drove the vision around network, endpoint and analytics security.
