CISSP Online Training Offered by ISC2

Live OnLine Creates Virtual Classroom for Information Security Students The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2) has recently launched an online information security course, the Live Online Official ISC2 Certified Information Systems Security Professional Common Body of Knowledge Review Seminar.

This review seminar is targeted for professionals and seekers who want to increase their knowledge about information security and are looking to get certified as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), says Elise Yacobellis, ISC2's Director of Corporate Development. The course is taught by ISC2-authorized instructors using live instruction via WebEx technology. The class size consists of 25-30 students.

"Live OnLine provides the same quality instruction as our in-person seminars, only it is more convenient, accessible anywhere, allowing busy professionals to take classes remotely, with no travel expense required," Yacobellis says. "While we have offered self-regulated e-learning courses for several years, for the first time now Live OnLine offers invaluable live interaction with a certified instructor for professionals seeking training in information security".

Currently, Live Online is more geared toward participants within the United States, as it follows the Eastern and Pacific time zones. However, ISC2 is planning very soon to expand online training to other countries, Yacobellis says.

The seminar offers a high-level review of the 10 CISSP CBK® domains and is delivered in two separate, two-hour sessions per week over the course of 10 weeks. It includes:

  • 100% Up-to-date material;
  • Examples, illustrations and real-life experiences from existing CISSPs;
  • A real-world-based overview of the relevant areas of the information security field;
  • Post-seminar self assessment material.

During the sessions, students can pose questions or comments to the instructor and receive immediate feedback or clarification. Live OnLine course material is archived online and can be accessible anytime by students. "So if participants miss a scheduled class or need extra review time, class content is there for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and the advice of the instructor is only an email away," says Yacobellis.

Topics covered by the seminar include access control, application security, business continuity and disaster recovery planning, cryptography, information security governance, risk management and operations security

Participants need a PC that is capable of downloading a WebEx client and equipped with Windows NT or later operating system, as well as speakers or a headset. Each student will receive a copy of the official ISC2 Guide to the CISSP CBK study guide and a hard copy of the course materials. Participants will also get a letter from ISC2 confirming their participation in this course.

Next Live OnLine session begins on July 13th through September 16th. The cost is $2,495 for early bird registration, which means registering 21 days in advance of the scheduled date. Regular cost is $2,695. There are company discounts available depending on the number of participants attending.

ISC2 is seeing a good response and is planning to start Live Online for its other certifications including SSCP - Systems Security Certified Practitioner and CSSLP - Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional by end of this year.
